CHILHUACLE NEGRO PEPPER (Capsicum annuum) is an ancient chile (that's what its name translates) traditionally used to create mole sauce. Definitely spicy, not hot, it is the complex flavor that makes it truly unique, with notes of fruit, tobacco, and chocolate. The bell-shaped dark fruits are 2" in size. Sells out immediately when I am able to bring to our Farmer's Market. Once only grown in the Canada valley of Oaxaca, Mexico, it is again being grown by backyard gourmets everywhere. Does well in containers (it is pretty with touches of purple in the stems and white flowers) and hot and humid environs but requiring some support as it grows almost 3-4' tall. You will wait until the peppers turn a dark bronze as shown before picking for best flavor. One of my absolute FAVORITE peppers! 90-100 Days. 10 Seeds. These take a while to germinate and do best under grow lights and on a heating pad. Given them time. I just tested and was pleased to get 100% germination!
